Chapter Meeting: Update On Chapter Elections And Sharks Along Our Coast!

October 12, 2010
at 7:00 p.m.
Simpkins Swim Center
979 17th Ave., Santa Cruz

Chapter Business: Chapter elections are coming up in December.  Are you interested in a leadership position in the Santa Cruz Chapter? Find out which positions are being elected, the duties of those positions, and and how to nominate yourself or someone else.

Guest speaker: Sean Van Sommeran, Executive Director of the Pelagic Shark Research Foundation.

You’ve all seen and heard Sean or read his comments in the regional printed and visual media. Think: National Geographic; Discovery Channel and like that… He’s the “go to guy” for shark info.

Sean will be presenting a yearly update of his past year of shark research, including recent shark strandings, lack of sightings, incorrect sightings, and hoaxes. Judging from past experience, we’re safe to say he’s an educational and entertaining speaker! Sean’s “shark talks” are usually a lively affair.

Light refreshments will be provided.

Everyone is invited and welcome! You do not have to be a member to attend.

Save Our Surf Program Raises $150,000 for Santa Cruz Chapter

For the fifteenth summer in a row, Couch Distributing helped raise $10,000, supporting our local chapter’s projects and campaigns through the annual “Save Our Surf” program. In its 15 years, Save Our Surf has raised more than $150,000 for the Santa Cruz chapter.
Save Our Surf was started in 1996 by the local distributor of Anheuser-Busch beers and other beverages. This year, as in the past fourteen, Couch pledged a nickel to the Santa Cruz Chapter of Surfrider Foundation for every case of Budweiser and Bud Light sold in Santa Cruz County between Memorial Day and Labor Day.

The Santa Cruz Chapter of Surfrider Foundation wishes to extend a sincere thank you to Couch Distributing for helping us with our mission.
