This past weekend, Surfrider had an amazing time celebrating the always-inspiring annual Women on Waves Surf Contest in Capitola. With whales breaching in the distance, we were thrilled to watch a lineup of bold women carving through the sparkling waves. This year's event was nothing short of spectacular–laughs and cheer echoed across the shoreline and the beach buzzed with stories and encouragement.
More than a competition, this event is a celebration of strength and spirit. Every moment of WOW feels like a tribute–a tribute to the sea, to the swell, and to the women who ride them. This year’s event captured that spirit perfectly.
What started nearly 30 years ago by a group of surfers who saw inequity in the sport has grown into a powerful movement. Beyond the boards and barrels, WOW also gives back. Proceeds from the event go toward supporting local organizations and programs that lift up women and girls in our community. Surfing may be the catalyst, but the ripple effect reaches far beyond the tide line.
It’s about impact. It’s about using the magic of the ocean to fuel positive change on land.
We are incredibly grateful to WOW for giving us the opportunity to table at the event. Thanks to WOW and to our dedicated Surfrider volunteers, we were able to connect with the community and to spread the word about our organization.
